Version #4 of the Dandelion Tee by Millicent Joy sees some adjustments from the previous version.
Adjustments vs. #3
- I moved the waistband down 2″ and widened it to 2″.
- The bottom fabric on this version is heavier than the french terry on #3 with a stiffer hand, so it doesn’t drape quite as effortlessly. This caused issues with the transition to relaxed fit around the waist. The curve outward was too drastic and created little stand-out humps on each hip. Definitely not flattering. To fix, I traced out the fitted version of the bottom, laid it over the garment, and cut off the excess along the skirt sides. The curve became much less pronounced, and once I sewed it up again, the problem was solved. I’m curious how an A-line silhouette would have worked. I might try that on a future version.
Nitpicking
- I don’t love the turtleneck on this version. I think it’s a combination of this rib jersey knit being a lot stretchier compared to the sweater knit in version #3, and also where the neckline on the bodice is hitting. It seems too large/low for the snug turtleneck look I was going for.
- While still comfortable, I’m surprised that I like version 3 so much more. The gray fabric here has a stiffer movement and has on occasion felt a bit clingy with static.
- I don’t know what happened when I was hemming the sleeves but the stitching is not my best. I think I was just ready to call this one done.
- I kind of want to bump the waistband back up, maybe an inch. Still searching for the sweet spot I think.
I’m already planning version #5. I’ll be moving away from the dresses for that one, and I’m super excited about the color blocking and fabric that’s waiting. I may have to rethink the neckline though if this gappy turtleneck is what I’d end up with again.
