Funny story. I was invited to a gala on November 6th and the attire was casual chic. I dreamt up this casual chic outfit which I sewed and then I wore something totally different to said gala.
Sometimes, my brain. /shrug
This outfit features:
- Faux leather Peg Legs
- Red ponte Bianca Bolero
- White rib knit Twist It Up Top, which I will be focusing on in this post.
About the Fabric
White ribbed sweater knit, which I think I got in a Boho Fabrics clearance box. It’s a little blemished in spots but they sent me enough yardage to easily work around the imperfections.
- 4-way stretch
- Loose recovery
- Fluid drape
- Semi-sheer
- Lightweight
I love sweater knits, including rib knits, but this top taught me that I do not enjoy working with such a stretchy, loosey-goosey fabric. That relaxed recovery and floppy drape are really quite annoying to pin. And stretch. And line up. And sew. I was so glad when I finished, to the point I didn’t even care about the little bunch along one of the arm bands.
About This Top
Twist It Up Top by Ellie & Mac
- Size: XS
- Cowl neck
- Sleeveless
- Original length
I’m happy with the look of the cowl neck, but this fabric was not ideal for this top. It grows too much, so it winds up a lot longer than I need it to be and the armbands are on the loose side. It’s passable for layering though, I suppose, which was my original intent anyway.
Lesson learned! After 4 versions of this top, I much prefer the end result given by a fabric with good recovery. My jersey and foil sweater knit versions turned out much better, in my opinion.
