This was an incredibly easy tutorial to follow on FleeceFun.com. I’m not a fan of the shape of this, and honestly question how often I’ll actually use it, but the whole idea was to make something warm to wear under my ski helmet. Hubby asked for one too, so I ended up making two of these.
I added little snaps to the side of mine to pin up the ear flaps. Having them down just looks way too 12th century priest for my taste if I’m wearing it anywhere other than under a helmet.
I might explore some other patterns to see if I can find something more stylish. Or maybe just make another and butcher it til it’s my own. We’ll see. I need something to work on while I wait for my Janome blue-tip needles so I can finally start sewing my Bibi skirt (and other knits.) My machine did not like my Schmetz jersey needles. Soooo many skipped stitches. At least, I hope it was just the needle not playing well with the ponte fabric. It did behave much better when I switched to the “knit” specific stitch — only one skipped stitch there. But I’ll try the needles anyway. It really shouldn’t skip just on a basic zigzag.
The JW8100 is so far a much more fickle machine than my Singer was. But I’m being very forgiving at this point. I do like how much smoother and refined it feels. And that lock-o-matic stitch gets addicting pretty quickly. Auto backtacking is kind of a dream for someone who so often forgets to backtack at the beginning.
