Rompers aren’t my thing. Then I saw this pattern and saw straps! Wonderful, criss-crossy straps. I’m a sucker for straps. We’re also getting into our 90°+ weather here and what could be better than built-in-everything and a mega-air-conditioned back with straps?

This gorgeous performance knit is part of a group we brought in from athletic wear giants Nike and Under Armour, and are the absolute perfect fabrics for an athletic tee or tank! The moisture wicking properties help keep sweat away from your skin, so that you can stay dry while exercising. —Cali Fabrics
It’s so pink. I don’t remember my reasoning for choosing this fabric… Maybe I wanted to be seen? No idea, but if that was the reason, mission accomplished. It could have been the price tag too: $4.49/yd is ridiculous, especially for some legit Nike/Under Armour fabric. That means this romper came in under $10 for fabric cost. Buy something comparable from Nike or Under Armor? Good luck. Sewing=worth it.
This fabric is easy to work with and light. Not as smooth as something like nylon spandex, but poly spandex really is great for drying quickly.
Notions:
- semicircle bra pad inserts
- an unworn thong I had laying around because I loathe thongs
What I Did Differently
- Tacked my bra cups to the lining by hand at the very end to make sure they sat where I needed them to sit.
- Holy cleavage, Batman! Not that I plan to wear this away from the house much, but I had to mitigate it a bit. So I dug through my box of random appliques and ribbons and unearthed a lacey thong I never wore. Congratulations, forgotten thong: you are now the lace detail on the front of my romper. All hail weird upcycles.
Notes for Next Time
- Use B cup.
- Raise the neckline. Maybe throw criss-cross straps in for a fun detail?
- Add 1″ to the torso of the shorts.
- Add 1″-2″ to the legs of the shorts so I can sew a wider hem.
- Widen the leg openings of the shorts.
- If doing another lace panel, stitch it in while constructing the bra/bodice.
- A fabric with more vertical stretch would be more ideal.
