Cropped Cocoon Cardigan in Tweed Sweater Knit

I had more of this fabric left over than I thought, so I was able to fit all the pieces for this cropped Cocoon Cardigan.

About the Fabrics

Tweed Sweater Knit from Surge Fabrics

  • Fabric Content: 95%Poly/5%Spandex
  • Fabric Weight: 220gsm
  • Stretch Percentages: 75% horizontal/10% vertical

I did use a different fabric for the pockets though to reduce bulk. I also wanted soft, fuzzy pockets, so I used some leftover brushed triblend from a Dandelion turtleneck I never posted about. It’s a gray version of the fabric I used on this Teen Spirit top.

About This Make

What I Did Differently

  • Had to shorten the bands by 1″ to make them fit on the fabric I had.
  • There were no instructions for pocket placement on the cropped version, so maybe it wasn’t meant for pockets, but I did pockets anyway and simply lined the base of them up with the bottom of the bodice before attaching the bands, and then sewed the bottom of the pocket into the seam with the bands.
  • Tacked the top of the pockets to the bodice cuz they flopped awkwardly. I guess there was a reason there were no instructions for pockets on the crop top.
  • Using my sewing machine instead of my serger to attach the bands to the bodice and finish that seam to minimize the waviness. It definitely helped.

Notes for Next Time

  • No pockets, methinks. They sit a little high anyway so I don’t know how often I’ll use them.
  • If I make this again, I think I’ll have to draft a length that’s somewhere between the crop and tunic length.
