Another GGVneck Hack, This Time With a Cowl

So I guess it wouldn’t be a v-neck anymore. Must I call it the GGCowlneck? GGCneck? Yeah, I’ll do that.

This is another sweatshirt fleece make that I didn’t want to make a sweatshirt out of. Enter the GGVneck-Cneck.

I’ve hacked the ham out of this pattern. So many versions, have I. It’s my go-to tee pattern for experimenting. For some comfy sweater potential and just the right amount of positive ease, I look no further.

About the Fabric

2 yards Gray Vintage, Sweatshirt Fleece from Boho Fabrics

  • Contents: Cotton/Poly
  • Weight: 14 oz
  • Width of Fabric: 66″
  • Horizontal Stretch: 75%
  • Vertical Stretch: 25%

Another cut of sweatshirt fleece I got for 25% off around Thanksgiving. Check out the cuffs for all the fleecy goodness on the back side.

About the Pattern

George + Ginger GGVneck mashed with the cowl from Ellie & Mac’s Twist It Up Top (because I loved how the cowl turned out on my houndstooth Twist It Up Top.)

  • Size 4 graded to 10 at waist and hips
  • Twist It Up neckline and cowl: size XS

What I Did Differently

  • Working off my dolman sleeve version, I raised the curve of the dolman so it would be far more subtle.
  • I modified the GGVneck neckline and mashed it with the Twist It Up neckline that I had raised on my stripey Twist It Up.
  • Copied the modified (narrowed) cowl from afore mentioned stripey top.

Notes for Next Time

  • I think I need to find the happy medium between this subtle dolman sleeve and my more dramatic previous versions. Although, it might not play right with this kind of structured fabric; dramatic dolman sleeves shine with more fluid fabric.
  • I’m wondering how to add just a little more interest to this. It’s great as is for a causal, wanna-stay-warm vibe, but it’s missing a little something that will make it mine and I don’t know what that should be. Something with the hemline? 🤷‍♀️
