Batty White

I’m not even sorry for the dad joke.

George + Ginger Batty Tunic, size 0, hi-lo hemline

About the Fabric

Batty Tunic no. 2 coming at you in a beautiful heather ivory clouds rib knit from Boho Fabrics. I purchased this 5 months ago so I don’t have the technical specs. Brace yourself for my generalizations.

  • phenomenal drape
  • 4-way stretch; ~125% horizontal, 75% vertical
  • light to midweight
  • super soft
  • good recovery
  • I don’t know how, but it has these tiny flecks of reflectivity in the weave. So gorgeous.
  • Easy to work with.

About This Make

Following my notes from my first Batty Tunic:

  • I sized the whole thing down. Drastically. This is a size 0 (my previous one was a size 4), and it was the absolute right thing to do.
  • I used an obnoxious thread color for the basting stitches on the sleeve gathers, which worked a treat. It was so easy to remove them after attaching the cuffs.
  • I sewed the basting stitches for the gathers at 1/4″ seam allowance, and then attached the cuffs with a 3/8″ seam allowance. Highly recommended. It keeps your basting thread from getting caught up in your permanent seam, and there’s so much ease in this garment that you can get away with bumping up the seam allowance.
  • I didn’t bother topstitching the neckband since it was behaving just fine when I tried it on.
  • I folded my hem up by 1″ twice, so that took 2″ off the bottom. Again, so much ease makes that totally workable.

There’s not a thing I would change about this one; I love it! The pattern recommends a chunky knit fabric—which I did use on my first version—but I quite love how this turned out with a lighter weight sweater knit.
