This fabric… There are no words to convey just how soft and smooth that suede texture is. I cannot stop petting it—which I’m sure makes me look ridiculous. I don’t even care.
About the Fabric
2 yards of Tan Stretch Scuba Suede from Cali Fabrics
- Fabric Content: Poly/Spandex
- Heavyweight
- 75% Horizontal stretch
- 25% Vertical stretch
There is just so much I love about this fabric. It was absolutely perfect for this jacket, everything from the tactile paradise to the way it behaved while cutting and sewing. Perfection.
For being such a heavyweight fabric, it manages to have a wonderful drape and softness. It’s also warm and comfortable. I love a piece of clothing I can put on, feel fabulous, and forget I’m even wearing it.
Another bonus: it’s machine washable and fine to toss in the dryer on low. Ah, fake suede, I am impressed with ye.
My only gripe is that it does not press well, so if you need to crease it to shape it for any reason, think again. As a result, I had to topstitch around the outside edge of the collar. Not a big deal, and I actually like the finish that creates.
About This Make
- Pattern: McCall’s M7254
- Size: small
- View: C
What I Did Differently
- Added 2 inches to the length of the arms—same as my muslin and denim-look scuba versions.
- With the weight of this fabric, I suspected I wouldn’t even need interfacing for the collar, and I was correct. I didn’t really want to put this fabric through my steam press anyway, so that worked out perfectly.
And that was it. Everything else was executed the same as my previous version of this pattern. This will easily be a new favorite in my wardrobe.
