I say it a lot, but I don’t like hemming. (I actually say I hate hemming, but I’m trying to be not so dramatic about it.) It might just boil down to impatience; it’s like the last thing to do on a sewing project. Therefore, it is the thing that stands between me and FINISHED. So any trick I can uncover to take away some of the annoyance of hemming is worth dropping here, I declare.
It probably took way longer than it should have for me to arrive at tidy square corners on a hemline, but here we are. At least I have arrived. I’ve seen some reels on Insta about square corners which I’ve watched several times. And saved. Because there seemed to be a bunch of steps. There might only be like three or four steps in reality, but my brain is telling me it was overcomplicated so I made up my own thing.
And Here It Is: Easy Hem Corners
1. Fold up corner.
2. Fold up one hem edge.
3. Fold up the other hem edge. Pin or clip in place and proceed with stitching.
Yeah…. That’s it. Sometimes the easiest things are the most worthy of a blog post.
