I can’t believe it took me this long to make another Mix It Up and Little Black Bra mash-up dress. For this one, I had the vision of adding some interest with cross-straps and I’m seeing it as a permanent addition.
About the Fabric
2 yards Retro Circles & Florals, Brushed Poly Print from Boho Fabrics
- Contents: 95% POLY, 5% SPANDEX
- Weight: 8 oz
- Width of Fabric: 61″
- Horizontal Stretch: 150%
- Vertical Stretch: 75%
Double brushed poly is perfect for this dress. I love the geometric print on this fabric and the brown/off-white color scheme. It’s fun, elegant, modern, and retro all at once.

What I Did Differently
- Obviously added the cross straps. I cut them at 15″ and anchored them beside the existing straps. Easy.
- Added bra pad inserts. I slid them in after constructing the bodice, then tacked them in place as the very last step so I could put the dress on and verify the right placement.
- I forgot to topstitch. Turns out it’s not necessary.
Notes for Next Time
- Would love to make this with a high-low skirt.
- Adding the bra pads stretches the fabric a bit. I’m wondering if I need to lengthen the bra itself… Probably increase the cup size.
