It’s taken far too long for me to order a blind for one of our bathrooms, but I finally did. Unfortunately, it fell into the abyss of “backordered” precisely when I needed it, so I had to improvise something for when my Mom visited since she’d be using said bathroom.
Knowing how to sew made this a fairly easy project. Imagine that.
I settled on two suction cup hooks to stick on the window, a small curtain rod, and some leftover fabric.
Arborescent Seasons Cotton Voile by Art Gallery Fabrics
- CONTENT: 100% Cotton
- WEIGHT: Lightweight
- STRETCH: none
What makes a curtain so easy is that it’s just a rectangle of fabric. (I hope that wasn’t news to anyone.) Here’s what I did:
- measured the width of the window, and the height I would need from where I was sticking the curtain rod
- Added a few inches to the top and bottom to account for the top pocket for the rod, and the bottom hem
- Used all the width available in my fabric scrap so I would have some nice gathers
- Sewed a narrow hem along the short edges of my soon-to-be-curtain
- Folded the top long edge over by about 0.5″ and again by about 1.25″ and sewed close to the first fold to create the rod pocket
- Folded the bottom edge over by about 0.5″ and again by about 2.5″ and sewed close to the first fold to create the bottom hem
And that’s it! A nice, cheap, temporary window dressing.
