Rock & Republic Sweater No. 5 (Black)

Been almost three years since I last made a Rock & Republic sweater, so it’s really no surprise that I was a moron.
The.
Entire.
Time.

I really don’t know where my brain was, but it was not present as I hemmed when I shouldn’t have hemmed, sewed a sleeve on inside out, then sewed the other sleeve on inside out, then sewed a few more sleeves on inside out… How, you ask? When there are only two sleeves?

I have no idea. That’s the magic of being a moron.

But it finally turned into something wearable, though less than perfect.

About the Fabric

2 yards Black “Cross Stitch” Loose Weave Sweater Knit Fabric from Boho Fabrics

  • Cotton Blend
  • Horizontal Stretch: 75%
  • Vertical Stretch: 25%
  • Weight: 7 oz
  • Width: 66″

Super soft sweater knit with a lovely loose weave and lots of stretch. The recovery is not very good, though, which isn’t a big deal if you properly stabilize certain seams. Specifically the shoulder seams and the back neckline.

I somehow did not stabilize the back neckline very well though, so it’s lookin’ pretty stretched out. (I’m sure it didn’t help that I sewed and removed messed up sleeves ad nauseum, so that ate away at the fabric and compounds the lookin’-pretty-stretched out.) Yeah, I don’t blame the fabric at all. It’s me. I was the problem. Me.

Notes for Next Time

  • Do better.
  • Reinforce the neckline better.
  • Pay attention to RIGHT SIDES TOGETHER!
  • Follow my instructions as written (don’t hem things until it says it’s time to hem them.)
