Teen Spirit Top

The Teen Spirit Top (George and Ginger Patterns) is a very simple sew. The loose-fit style takes a lot of work out of cutting/grading pattern pieces, and with only four pieces to deal with, it’s very quick and easy to assemble.

About This Version

  • Features a vertical strip double-brushed poly from Made of Love Fabrics. The cut I got was a pretty wonky cut for several reasons (the vertical stripe didn’t run parallel to the selvages, the cut edges were pretty viciously skewed, there were one or two spots that had holes) so in working around these issues, stripe matching became secondary, but I lucked out between the front and back bodice and the stripes matched up flawlessly.
  • I added 2″ to the sleeves.
  • I skipped the bottom hem to reduce bulk and really take advantage of the drape of the fabric.
  • I made a size XS with no grading and no custom sizing.
  • I chose the high-low hem at cropped length.

About the Pattern

  • Instructions are concise and easy to understand with good illustrations.
  • The front and back bodice are condensed into one, so it takes a little extra concentration to make sure you’re tracing the correct lines for each.
