Wide Leg Cozy Pants in Olive Scuba Knit

Because I love my pinstripe ones so much, I present another pair of wide-leg, high-waisted Cozy Pants.

About the Fabric

2 yards Olive Green, Scuba Knit from Boho Fabrics

  • Contents: 95% Polyester, 5% Spandex
  • Weight: 11oz
  • Width of Fabric: 60″
  • Horizontal Stretch: 100%
  • Vertical Stretch: 25%

This is a lovely, soft double-knit with good drape. Very comfortable; smooth texture on both sides. A little unforgiving as far as showing bumps and lines beneath it, though. Easy to work with.

About the Pattern

Patterns for Pirates: Cozy Pants, using the same mods from my Pinstripe version.

  • size Large
  • high waist with pockets
  • Medium crotch curve
  • Waistband contoured from Large at the bottom to Medium at the top

What I Did Differently

  • Waistband and pockets sewn at indicated 1/2″ seam allowance. Everything else sewn at 1/4″ seam allowance.
  • Final inseam is 31″, which left me with quite a lot to trim off and even out at the hems on this one. The final hem is folded 1″ over twice.
  • Tried to address the pooling fabric below the back waistband, so I reduced the back waistline by 1″ at the center and graded it out to meet the existing side seam. I’m not sure if it helped; it kind of looks like it’s doing the same thing still… Uhg. Fitting. 🤦‍♀️
  • Topstitched the pocket curve with a double needle and contrasting thread using low 1.5 thread tension to reduce tunneling.

I think I’m still on the hunt for my go-to pants pattern. My SOS jeans are the closest I’ve gotten to a go-to, and it’s on my list to make another pair of these at full length. I really do need to discover the perfect pants, though. That is the hole in my wardrobe I constantly face.

Notes for Next Time

  • Are they just too high? Maybe I need to drop that waistline a few inches and find that flattering seamline on my body.
